Psalm 132:1-9
Lord, remember David And all his afflictions; 2 How he swore to the Lord, And vowed to the Mighty One of Jacob 3 “Surely I will not go into the chamber of my house, Or go up to the comfort of my bed; 4 I will not give sleep to my eyes Or slumber to my eyelids, 5 Until I find a place for the Lord, A dwelling place for the Mighty One of Jacob.” 6 Behold, we heard of it in Ephrathah; We found it in the fields of the woods.7 Let us go into His tabernacle; Let us worship at His footstool. 8 Arise, O Lord, to Your resting place, You and the ark of Your strength. 9 Let Your priests be clothed with righteousness, And let Your saints shout for joy.
Many Christians equate the afflictions of David's to the time he was chased by Saul or when he ran for his life after his son Absalom rebelled against him. After reading verse 1, we probably would expect the next verse to go like this: "how Saul tried to kill him out of jealousy" or "how his own son revolted against him"... But no, this Psalm revealed a very unique yet very noble suffering of David - he can not and does not want to rest until His Lord finds a resting place. What occupied his heart was not his, his family's, or even his people's gain or loss but the testimony of God and the essence of His presence symbolized by the ark in the old Testament. He longed to see God regain the honor and worship He deserves among His people more than anything else. Oh, no wonder God called David a man after His own heart! God is not going to overlook such zeal and desire. If we read the rest of this Psalm we see how God is so pleased to answer David's prayer, much more than what he had asked! Praise the Lord for such a testimony!
