2 Samuel 22:1-4, 31-37, 50-51
Then David spoke to the Lord the words of this song, on the day when the Lord had delivered him from the hand of all his enemies, and from the hand of Saul. 2 And he said: “The Lord is my rock and my fortress and my deliverer; 3 The God of my strength, in whom I will trust; My shield and the horn of my salvation, My stronghold and my refuge; My Savior, You save me from violence. 4 I will call upon the Lord, who is worthy to be praised; So shall I be saved from my enemies.
31 As for God, His way is perfect; The word of the Lord is proven; He is a shield to all who trust in Him. 32 “For who is God, except the Lord? And who is a rock, except our God? 33 God is my strength and power, And He makes my way perfect. 34 He makes my feet like the feet of deer, And sets me on my high places. 35 He teaches my hands to make war, So that my arms can bend a bow of bronze. 36 “You have also given me the shield of Your salvation; Your gentleness has made me great. 37 You enlarged my path under me; So my feet did not slip.
50 Therefore I will give thanks to You, O Lord, among the Gentiles, And sing praises to Your name. 51 “He is the tower of salvation to His king, And shows mercy to His anointed, To David and his descendants forevermore.”
On his way to becoming king of Israel, David led his nation through numerous battles and conflicts. We may have wondered whether he was worried about the possibility of death or failure in his encounters. But it's clear from his song of praise in 2 Samuel 22 that David had absolute faith in God throughout his journey. "I will call upon the LORD, who is worthy to be praised" (v4), he says, as he acknowledges God's almighty strength and deliverance. Why worry when he knows God is fighting his battles?
ReplyDeleteLet's remember that if we do what God intends for us to do, He will always be with us - "He is a shield to all who trust him" (v31). We can be strong and courageous, because that is an act of absolute faith. God is worthy of that faith, and more than worthy of our praise.
